Welcome to Schizophrenic Brain!

Schizophrenia is a serious disorder of the nervous system that severely alters the personality and behaviour of sufferers who experience delusions, hallucinations, thoughts and emotions that can be frightening and difficult to control. The World Health Organization estimates that in 2011 schizophrenia affects around 24 million people worldwide, or roughly 1% of the population, and in the UK the cost to the NHS for providing care to patients with schizophrenia is estimated to be £2.2 billion per year.

Schizophrenic Brain is a project designed to help provide clear information about the condition. Use the menu above to find details about causes, diagnosis, and treatment of the disease, as well as information about its effect on the normal function of the brain.
